- The way we wanted to portray our film of “Where’s my Mr Right?” is to use the typical conventions that are seen in a romantic comedy. We use stereotypically characters used in this genre of film, of the typical unloved and wanting to find love in a film, we found this through our research which is represented through the character Bridget Jones in the Bridget Jones trilogy where she is wanting to find love but is always unlucky in succeeding, the character in our film is shown to be depressing and troubled throughout the opening of our film. On the other hand we have the bubbly and party girl type of character who is paired normally with a dull character like our character Zoey. We have used the typical stereotyping of the charters as we thought this was generally always used in romantic comedy films which were noticeable through our research. We thought that if we didn’t use the stereotypes it wouldn’t be as effective as it wouldn’t hold that main storyline of the girl finding love.
We have stereotyped two types of women in society which are shown through this genre of film. The depressed, upset, lonely girl who is finding love who we are introduced instantly in the opening titles showing the audience the type of film this is going to be like as it has this character introduced instantly as she is crying and upset. The phone call introduces the other main character in the storyline this shows the closeness between the two characters and show the audience the relationship of the characters, as this character is strong and outspoken and is not afraid to say what she think especially to her friends.
- For the institution of our film we chose Paramount, from the research we did together as a good the main institution film that was used and showed the popularity of top grossing film was Paramount in the genre of romantic comedies. As this was really noticeable in our research, and as this is such a well-know global film company this would be the best institution to use as our company as viewers would have that fan base for that particular company and trusts the film they are instituting as they would only brand films that they know will do well globally at the box office.
- For our primary audience our target was between the ages of 15-25 as this is the main cinema audience age that go to cinema, targeting a big audience will help bring in audience numbers as because of the type of genre we are doing it fits between that age cap as the film contains both the comedy element and drama element which I think will appeal for this audience. The main audience that I believe will come to see the film is women, as it appeals and implies what all women are like in their love lives and how they deal with it, and this audience can relate to what the film is portraying as in society this is what people perceive women to be so they can relate to the problems the characters have as they may have experienced it.
Our films secondary audience is the male audience, we think our film can also appeal to this audience because of the ending of the film involving the pictures of the main characters and the men she has been in relationships with. As the film is about relationship, the characters of the men play a big part in the film as each story in the film will focus on the different males and as well as how the women coped in the relationship but also the men so this can appeal to this male audience as they can relate to the storyline. During the end when the pictures our coming up on the credits I think because of the men in the pictures it can appeal to the male audience as they have the knowing that male characters are involved in the film.
However overall the main target audience for this type of film is typically women.
- The credits at the end involving the pictures collage with the titles, I think this is very effective as it attracts the audience to wonder why this depressing and dull character at the beginning of the opening film has become like this, when in these pictures she is similar to her best friend in the film now, and makes the audience ponder why she has become the way she is making them want to looking on and find out. The story is shown through the pictures and the storyline of the film is shown to the audience as the pictures are the beginning of how she has become to this person who is completely different. Setting the narrative tension.
- I also think the song plays a big part to attract to the audience, this song is not very well- known however it is very catchy and cheery which contrasts completely to the atmosphere of the character in the opening of the scene. The character is very moody and depressed throughout the opening title and the contrasting effects of the song make the scene come out more and they are so different from each other. The song is called “Two Birds” this relates to the title of the film of “Where is my Mr Right?”, two birds can represents the two main characters of Zoey and Donna but also can imply the characters of a male and a female and how they are together, the theme of the storyline is finding that male partner and I think the connotation of the song title work well with the title of the film as they both represent the finding of love or being in love.
- When using the technologies of making the film I found it easier than we did in previous products. We did a lot of re shooting in our filming to get the perfect shots in each of the scenes we wanted to achieve, trying to achieve the best continuity and not making any obvious errors when filming, especially when we filmed on two separate days. For example when entering the house in the first few seconds of the live action films we continuously re shot this scene at different angles; one outside the car looking through the front window, behind the shoulder shot, point of view shot, and when we felt we had achieved a good shot we still re shot so we got it perfect the next time and making it even more better then previously. When shooting we struggled to get the characters movement in the shot, and I think the shot we achieved showed the character more and what she is doing making the audience understand what the is going on with the character. Also when editing we learnt different skills involving the slide transitions at the beginning of the film which I though was really effective using the adobe premiere, this technology helped us fix errors within shots, using the slide transitions to fix continuity errors and making the scenes slide more together without pausing.
The slide transitions were shown through our research of the film "Definitely Maybe", we thought this was effective as it made it more unique and different compared to other films and even though we used the effect from this specific film, we put our own twist on it to make it our own. When starting off using the slide transitions we struggled with getting to grips with how to use the programme to enable us to use this effective, by practising and a lot of work together we managed to use it,using the key frames to help us guide our vision of what we wanted it to look like into the film. The technology is this circumstances helped us take out continuity errors that we noticed when editing the clips and the slide transitions fitted well into this sequence so using this effect made the errors less obvious and disguise the errors. The slide transitions that we originally wanted to use was the shots coming in a straight line shown in the clip 'Definitely Maybe' but because of the continuity errors we had made we couldn't achieve this but however the outcome we had was much better then the original plan that we thought out as it was different and not to similar to the research from the film.
From the previous products we have done I think the most I have learnt is too use the most camera angles and camera movements as you can, as using each angle and movement on a different scene will bring more variation in shots to see what the best shot would be suitable for the scene. This will make the ideas that we bring to the table have a better outcome of what you wanted to achieve as you physically see the different shots that are used to make you're idea work better.
